Sean Bones - Rings -2009-
(Reggae, Ska)

From: NYC
Website: http://www.myspace.com/seanbones

One minute you're Sean Sullivan working a day job in New York City's fashion biz and playing guitar in an indie rock band called Sam Champion. Seemingly, the next moment you're sailing off to Jamaica to star in a movie with Nora Jones ('Wah Do Dem') and a record label is asking you to follow up your fun reggae-tinged solo single, 'Easy Street,' with a full album. Such has been the whirlwind year for Brooklyn-based Sullivan, who's about to be better known as Sean Bones. In 'Rings' Bones has put out an awesome album that seamlessly blends reggae, ska and Britpop. This album is so good I could not decide what songs to feature. Every song is good and this is a very honest, warm and funky album. Thought I would make the last post of the year one of the best records of the year. Enjoy! Cheers to more great music in 2010!

White Rabbits - It's Frightening -2009-
(Alternative, Indie, Rock)

From: NYC
Website: http://whiterabbitsmusic.com/

The White Rabbits are lead by dual vocalists, Greg Roberts (Guitar / Vox) and Steve Patterson (Piano / Vox), the 6 piece is rounded out by Alex Even (Guitar / Vox), Adam Russell (Bass), Matt “The Duck” Clark (Drums) and Jamie Levinson (Percussion). The White Rabbits refer to their music as "honky tonk calypso," and their cheerful blend of calypso, reggae and ska rhythms, plus secondhand music hall influences and big pop hooks, strongly recalls vintage Madness circa "Our House" and the moodier, more experimental side of the Specials. Awesome percussion, harmonies and some really dark playfully moody songwriting make It's Frightening a very nice listen. "Percussion Gun" is a really good track that is getting a lot of play in the iPod.

Jahcoustix and The Outsideplayers - Self Titled -2008-
(Reggae)

From: Berlin, Germany
Website: www.myspace.com/outsideplayers

Jahcoustix is an up and coming star in the European reggae scene and has teamed up with The Outsideplayers on this live acoustic recording. This Cd is the product of a jam session recorded on an 8-track in the backyard of one of the locations on tour. This session included Uwe on percussions, and Matscher on a fender rhodes keyboard, an acoustic guitar and the voices of Jahcoustix, Olive and Miss Flint. Pretty nice organic roots/reggae feel. Nathan Maxwell & The Original Bunny Gang - White Rabbit -2009-
(Reggae, Folk, Acoustic)

From: Los Angeles, CA
Website: www.nathenmaxwell.com

There comes a time in his life when each and every man needs to express himself, and for Nathen Maxwell that time has come. For the past thirteen years Maxwell has been leaving his heart on stage as the bassist for the seminal Celtic rock band Flogging Molly, one of the biggest touring punk acts in the world. The tracks on 'White Rabbit' were written over the past ten years spanning from when Flogging Molly were playing weekend gigs until more recent days that have seen the act play over two hundred shows a year. 'White Rabbit' is a refreshingly stripped-down album that fully reconciles Maxwell’s love of rock, reggae and folk music into an honest collection of songs that will appeal as much to fans of Jack Johnson, Manu Chao, and Bob Marley as it will Flogging Molly and the Pogues. Really chill/mellow reggae album that can be enjoyed by fans of any type of music.

Broken Bells - The High Road -2009-
(Alternative, Experimental)

Website: http://www.brokenbells.com/

James Mercer lead singer of The Shins has teamed up with producer extraordinaire/one half of Gnarls Barkley Danger Mouse to form a sweet new band. The debut from Broken Bells (or whichever name they decide to go with) is due early next year. This is not just a "produced by Danger Mouse" one-off thing. Mercer and the Mouse are apparently in it for the long haul and already have plans extending past their first album. The debut album is scheduled to release on the March 9th 2010. "The High Road" is a cool as hell track and this new duo is now on my radar Big Time!

Cage The Elephant - Cage The Elephant -2008-
(Rock, Alternative)

From: Bowling Green, KY
Website: http://www.cagetheelephant.com/

Cage The Elephant is a Bowling Green, Kentucky-based five piece band consisting of Matt Shultz (vocals), his brother Brad (guitar) and their friends Daniel Titchenor (bass), Lincoln Parish (guitar) and Jared Champion (drums). The essence of Jimi Hendrix, Green Day, White Stripes and Kings of Leon, among others, fuels Cage’s libertine, over-the-top rock explosions. This is some untamed, raucous, and abrupt Rock n Roll. 'Ain't No Rest For The Wicked' and 'Back Against The Wall' are sweet tracks. These crazy kids have created music meant to be played loud so pump up the volume and enjoy!

The Expos - Blackwater -2009-
(Reggae, Ska, Pop)

From: Ontario Canada
Website: http://www.myspace.com/thedonutska

It is a pretty awesome time to be a music lover and to have the technology and ability to seek out and occasionally find a band and an album that blow you away. It is sometimes overwhelming to sort through all the music that is out there in every corner of the globe, but every once in awhile you are rewarded. The Expos are one of those rewards, bringing us some of the best and catchiest rocksteady reggae tunes around. Blackwater is one of those rare albums that doesn't just give us a couple good songs, but gives us a collection of classics. Each song has gotten better and better with each listen. The Expos push the limits of reggae far beyond most of their contemporaries with a lush art-pop agenda lurking in the background. The fabulous Expos are Reed Neagle - (Vocals, drums), Michel Verrier - (Vocals, organ), Christopher Shannon - (Bass), and Adam Pariselli - (Guitar). Discover this band now and sit back and enjoy. I know I am.

Tahuna Breaks - Black Brown & White -2009-
(Reggae, Funk, Soul)

From: Auckland, New Zealand
Website: http://www.tahunabreaks.com/

This tight 8 piece outfit out of Auckland is on their way to doing big things. They encompass all of the styles that are huge in NZ right now, which is James Brown style funk, Katchafire style reggae, and some Fat Freddy/Black Seeds style dub. Tahuna Breaks have always been a band built upon a simple philosophy- the love of music. With an open mind and an adventurous spirit, unafraid to mix genres and musical stylings- their ‘anything goes’ and sometimes unconventional approach is governed only by two criteria: passion and energy. Tight instrumentation and Ben Harper-esque vocals give this group a lot of listener appeal. Tahuna Breaks gets the party started so crank it up!

Sabotage Soundsystem - The Boto Machine Gun -2009-
(Reggae, Dub, Hip-Hop)

From: Kona, HI
Website: http://www.myspace.com/sabotagesoundsystem

Sabotage Soundsystem is the new project of Remy “Dub” DeRochemont and Kaleo Wassman of Pepper. The new venture for the duo culminates in music that has a decidedly laid-back rural island feel, while at the same time it is clear the two come into their own with influences and experiences that come from worldly travels, international exposure, and a long life on the road. As the title, The Boto Machine Gun implies, the new album is all at once dirty, sexy, and lethal. A guerrilla style recording, this weapon was built in people’s houses and garages on both sides of the sea, from Hawaii to SoCal. If your a fan of Pepper your gonna dig these tunes.

Bob Schneider - Lovely Creatures -2009-
(Rock, Folk, Americana)

From: Austin, TX
Website: http://bobschneider.ning.com/

Bob Schneider is not new to this game. He has built his career as a working class musician and as a result has an institution of faithful followers all across the country with a mega-fan-base epicenter in Austin. There have been highs and lows throughout his brilliant career. Through it all he sustained and even flourished as an independent artist releasing five albums, hundreds of digital singles, and fronting three bands simultaneously. Yet, Schneider still continues to push himself in a multitude of creative directions now with the beguiling melodies of 'Lovely Creatures'. Undoubtedly, with 'Lovely Creatures,' Bob Schneider delivers the album that his fans have long wanted. Yearning choruses, sharp lyrics that are at times funny and alternately tragic, memorable melodies, and clever surprises all converge on 'Lovely Creatures' in an ear-friendly fashion that promises heavy rotation for devout fans and newly converted Schneider-philes.

P-Nuckle - Stand Up -2009-
(Reggae, Rock, Hip-Hop, Punk)

From: Denver, CO
Website: www.p-nuckle.com

Denver's P-Nuckle is Chris LaPlante, Dave Jackson, Ty Tamaru, Edison George, Oj Manzanares, and Justin Spahlinger. They play a mix of all the styles listed above, but the pure reggae/hip-hop songs on Stand Up e.g. 'Opressor Man' & 'No Justice' really shine. The album flows very nicely with the exception of two Blink 182 style punk songs that just do not seem to fit in with the rest of the tracks. However these Nuckleheads have created a collection of tunes that you can crank up and enjoy or just have playing in the background to mellow out to. Enjoying all of the featured songs down below.

The Tallest Man On Earth - Shallow Grave -2008-
(Acoustic, Folk, Blues)

From: Sweden
Website: http://www.myspace.com/thetallestmanonearth

The Tallest Man On Earth is actually a normal sized guy named Kristian Matsson from Dalarna, Sweden. Mr. Matsson is a natural born songwriter whose music flows unforced and effortless and sounds eerily similar to pre-electric Dylan. Matsson with nimble guitar work and his rough nasally vocals is able to transcend Dylan comparisons and as you listen to each song on 'Shallow Grave' it’s hard to shake the feeling that nobody else but him could ever play this collection of songs. The Tallest Man On Earth has created an album that is folky, earthy, and real & has managed to break away from the typical "New-Dylan" folksingers. Click album art to purchase the album.

Pacific Dub - Fire Eye -2009-
(Reggae, Dub, Rock)

From: Huntington Beach, CA
Website: http://www.myspace.com/pacificdubmusic

Pacific Dub is a young band out of Huntington Beach that in the past 12 months has made a big splash on the reggae/rock scene with the release of this debut album and a spot at the West Beach Music Festival in Santa Barbara. Pacific Dub is Bryce Klemer (Lead Guitar), Colton Place (Vocals, Guitar), Ryan Naglich (Bass), David Delaney (Drums, Vocals). There is no doubting a strong Rebelution influence running through-out the album’s ten tracks, but the band does what it does very well and that is powerful, creative, guitar driven reggae/rock. Interested to see if Pacific Dub can seperate themselves from the Rebelution/Slightly Stoopid influenced pack of bands. Click the album art to purchase this CD.

Natty - Man Like I -2008-
(Reggae, Alternative, Roots)

From: London
Website: http://www.nattymusic.com/

With his acoustic soul-reggae grooves and laidback vibes, Natty is being billed the UK's version of Jack Johnson, but this talented 24-year-old is a product of north London and his fusion of social commentary and pop is closer to 80s UK ska acts than JJ. Bouncy and catchy melodies blend well with Natty's mix of lyrical depth. 'Man Like I' is a soulful and at times upbeat debut album full of summertime grooves. Standout track so far is 'Cold Town'.
