A few months ago, the Dispatch website became quite active for the first time in almost 3 years. A mysterious countdown appeared on the website which turned out to be for the announcement of 6, now 12 concert dates scattered around the U.S.

In 2004, Dispatch played their final show in Boston at Hatch Shell. The show was intended to have in the range of 10-30 thousand. It is estimated that over 100 000 people showed up for the event. In 2007, Dispatch came back for a charity concert entitled ‘Zimbabwe’ at Madison Square Garden, selling out its tickets almost immediately after going on sale.

Custom Kings grabbed my attention with their first EP while on vacation in OZ and I haven't been able to stop listening some 6 years later. Nick Vorrath, Luke Gale, Craig Shanahan and Jarrad Brown make some incredibly catchy tunes. They started out being a little more reggae with an almost Aussie hip-hop vibe, but over the last couple of albums have developed more of a folky pop style which also suits them. They are a very versatile band which has also spanned more than a couple side projects including last years awesome Joe Neptune album. Great Escape marked a shift in the way the band approached the recording process. Stepping out of the "bedroom", the band set up camp at Melbourne's legendary Sing Sing for a two-week recording session, working with long-time collaborator and producer Steven Schram. The enjoyment of this style is evident throughout Great Escape, an album that bursts with warm melodies and sunny arrangements. Great Escape is a sublime musical journey that treats listeners to intelligent, whimsical story telling but also some more driving moments that channel Californian surf sounds of the 60s and 70s, as well as early 90s indie pop. Come Around Sunshine is maxed out in it's diversity, which has songs ranging from Gospel, Post-Punk to Country and 50's style Doo-Wop. While it is a little more commercial than previous albums Come Around Sunshine is a fantastic listen from one of the top bands in the music biz.

This is not the sound of the Matt Costa you have heard before. I think that about sums it up in the bands own words. Ha Ha. Seriously these are some catchy, bouncy tunes. Quite an escape from previous records, but a very welcome addition to the collection.

German reggae artist Martin Jondo got his start in 2002 when he joined future German reggae star Gentleman on tour, not as a musician but as a merchandiser selling T-shirts to the fans. Eventually, Gentleman took a chance on Jondo and brought him on-stage. When Jondo delivered his original composition "Rainbow Warrior," the crowd responded so positively that Gentleman gave his merchandiser his own spot in the show for the rest of the tour. Jondo has not looked back since. His newest album is a bit more rock and pop than previous LP's but Sky Rider is packed with a slew of upbeat and positive reggae/pop. On my flight home from Europe I heard Peter Wolf Crier on a Delta airlines radio station and it was so relaxing and soothing. Inter-Be is the debut album by Peter Wolf Crier, the Minneapolis-based duo of Peter Pisano and Brian Moen. The album was born on a single summer night when Pisano felt a torrent of creativity after what had felt, to him, like an endless dry spell. He shared the songs with Moen, and over the months that followed, at Moen's home, these rough tunes became what they are now: a confident collection of songs, but deceptive in that they sound like their very guts still reflect the thoughts of a doubtful man in transition. For more than 30 years, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been one of America's greatest live bands, and they are able to capture the magic of their live show on this latest offering. There seems to be quite a bit of freedom and experimentation within the recording. This is the sound of a band playing together in a room not a studio - facing each other, all singing and playing at the same time. The music is alive, with no overdubs or studio trickery. What you hear is what they created on the spot at that time. Mojo showcases quite a variety of genres from some really rocking rock 'n' roll to blues and even reggae. There may not be any of the instant classic sing along ballads that Petty is most famous for, but this is a solid listen with some incredible musicianship throughout. One thing seems certain, Petty and the Heartbreakers have definitely got their Mojo back.

There are not a lot of better feelings in this world than taking in the beautiful scenery of Hawaii while listening to the laid back tunes of the islands. I heard quite a few tracks while in Hawaii that are now on a pretty consistent rotation on the iPod to replicate that feeling of peace and relaxation. King Kekai is one of those Hawaiian artists that you will hear on local stations and he plays a mix of rap, hip-hop and reggae. While he does have a nice variety of tracks on Naha Stone I will forever remember King Kekai for his track 'Green Bottles'. This song has become the theme song or anthem if you will to both of my vacations to the islands. It is an epic track so give it a listen. It cracks me up and makes me thirsty every time I hear it. Pass me a green bottle already!

Deer Tick is the songwriting project/band of John McCauley who has been ferociously zig-zagging across the United States, hitting all the sparsely attended basement shows, smoky bars, upscale joints, small to medium size festivals, and everything in between, since 2005. The raspy voiced McCauley sings over nice chiming guitars and swelling backing vocals on the very good 'Twenty Miles', but the sadness is laid on a little thick on quite a few tracks which seems to bring some songs down, but that is not to say that there aren't good songs here because there are. Somewhere along the way from his debut to this his 5th studio album, Jack Johnson has become a worldwide superstar. Jack's laid back acoustic surf-rock appeals to the masses and To The Sea does not deviate from that successful formula. The usual bandmates are back once again with Merlo Podlewski, Zach Gill (ALO) and Adam Topol. To The Sea contains some of the most upbeat funky tunes Jack has ever recorded and some of the most mellow of his career, but there is a nice balance throughout making this a very cohesive LP. There are some instant classics here ('You And Your Heart', 'From The Clouds') just to name a couple. While there aren't many risks taken with To The Sea Jack Johnson delivers once again with warm, mellow and soulful tunes. A very enjoyable album that makes you feel like your on a permanent vacation and who doesn't like that feeling.
